Is Flying Private Safe?

We often talk to first-time clients who have doubts about flying private. While it’s true that you may feel more turbulence on a smaller aircraft, taking a chartered jet does not put you at increased risk. Is flying private safe? The answer is yes, and we’re here to tell you why.

Federal and Third-Party Regulations

A common misconception about private jets and the people who operate them is that the private flight industry is largely unregulated. The truth is that the Federal Aviation Administration is heavily involved in private jet safety. For example, all private jet providers must have FAA certification. Every 100 hours of flight time, private jets must be inspected and meet FAA standards before they can return to the skies.

Trustworthy chartered jet services go above and beyond to meet additional third-party standards. For example, North Dallas Aviation has IS-BAO Stage II certification and the ARG/US Gold rating.

Private Aircraft Maintenance

In addition to 100-hour inspections, private jets must submit to annual FAA safety inspections. While meeting third-party regulations is entirely voluntary, chartered jet services must meet strict criteria in order to maintain those certifications and safety ratings.

This ongoing maintenance ensures that you will set out on a safe, up-to-date jet. On the rare occasion that your chartered jet needs additional last-minute maintenance, you will have access to another jet in the fleet, minimizing travel delays.

Pilot Training

Any pilot working for our private jet charter services has put in hours of training before ever taking paying guests on a flight. To obtain a basic private pilot certificate, they’ve put in a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, both solo and with a trainer.

Additional requirements exist to receive instrument ratings, multi-engine ratings, and type ratings for just about every type of jet your pilot can fly.

Sanitation

Maybe you’re not just worried about the safety of the jet you’re flying in or the training your pilot has received. In a post-pandemic world, many passengers are more concerned with sanitation than ever before. When it comes to reducing the spread of germs, private jets are hard to beat.

Many private jets depart from small airports. In some cases, you never even need to go indoors before stepping onto your jet. Plus, you’ll fly with only a handful of other passengers of your choosing and a small crew. You’re at a much lower risk of catching a cold or virus when you fly private.

Emergency Preparedness

What if one of your passengers experiences a medical emergency mid-flight? Perhaps the weather takes a severe turn before you’ve reached your destination? Not only are private jets equipped with basic first aid, but your pilot is able to quickly divert to the nearest airport, including thousands of private airports commercial planes can’t access.
